The First Spark: "Association of Mauritians of Scarborough"
To secure gym permits from the Scarborough Board of Education and Parks & Recreation in Spring 1987, the informal group adopted the name Association of Mauritians of Scarborough (AMS). Scarborough naturally became the operational hub as most members resided in East Toronto. The initiative grew so rapidly through word-of-mouth that it required a structured executive direction.
September – November 1988
Executive Committee Formed & Rebranded to "Club M"
An Executive Committee formed in September 1988 to manage the expanding group. On November 27, 1988, after reviewing dozens of name suggestions, the committee formally chose "Club M" as the new name for AMS.

The First Major Community Events
Club M launched its landmark social tradition with an inaugural Christmas Party on Dec 23, 1988 at North York Memorial Hall's Gold Room. This was followed on March 11, 1989 by a celebration of the Anniversary of Independence of Mauritius at Ember's Restaurant in Scarborough.

Official Provincial Incorporation
Club M was officially incorporated in the Province of Ontario under the legal title ‘Regroupement Mauricien de Toronto'. Its constitution formally enshrined its core mission: to promote the interests of the Mauritian community in Canada and host social and recreational activities.
1990 – June 2026
Sunday Sports & Recreational Traditions
From 1990 to 2000, Club M hosted regular Sunday afternoon sports and recreational activities during the school year (September to June) at Pope John Paul II Catholic School. In September 2000, the activities moved to Middlefield Collegiate Institute, continuing every season through June 2026. Due to a significant increase in rental costs at Middlefield Collegiate for the 2026/2027 season, Club M concluded its tenure there in June 2026 after 26 years.
May 1991 – May 2013
The Toronto–Montreal "Inter-City Sports Tournament"
In May 1991 (on Victoria Day weekend), Club M organized a friendly sports tournament against Montreal's Cercle Sportif M. The inter-city tournament featured badminton, basketball, and volleyball. This tournament became an annual tradition alternating between Toronto and Montreal through May 2013.
2012 – 2013
Hakka Cultural Preservation & Alliance
Club M served as an organizing committee member and sponsor for the Toronto Hakka Conference 2012 at York University (Vari Hall), where Club M Youth built an exhibit highlighting the Hakka Chinese in Mauritius. In 2013, Club M together with other Hakka associations whose members are Hakka Chinese from India, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago formed the Toronto Hakka Heritage Alliance (THHA).

Silver Jubilee: 25th Anniversary Celebration
Club M celebrated a quarter-century of community building and service with a major 25th Anniversary gala held at the Thornhill Community Centre in Thornhill, Ontario.

Civic Leadership & Flag Raising Ceremonies
As members of the Organizing Committee chaired by former Honorary Consul of Mauritius in Toronto, Mr. Ben Sennik, Club M helped plan and execute the official Mauritius Flag Raising Ceremonies at Toronto City Hall on March 12, 2016 and March 12, 2017.

30th Anniversary Milestone
Marking three decades of unity, active sports, and cultural preservation, Club M celebrated its 30th Anniversary at Thornhill Community Centre, bringing together founding members, youth, and local leaders.

Digital Modernization: Launch of the New Official Website
Marking a major digital step forward, Regroupement Mauricien de Toronto officially launched its newly redesigned website. The upgraded digital platform provides members across the Greater Toronto Area with modern access to activity schedules, venue announcements, membership registration, and community archives.

A New Chapter: Transitioning to Our New Sunday Location
Following the conclusion of activities at Middlefield Collegiate Institute in June 2026, Club M actively initiated plans for a new sports home. After 26 wonderful years at Middlefield Collegiate Institute, we have officially secured a new venue for our Sunday gatherings. Our new Sunday home is École secondaire Norval-Morrisseau, located at 51 Wright St, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 4A2.

Today, Club M continues its dynamic intergenerational legacy across the Greater Toronto Area. By bringing together youth, families, and seniors — especially those of Hakka Chinese Heritage — Club M remains dedicated to offering active sports, wellness programs, and vibrant cultural events for all generations.
